Frequently asked

Questions sailors actually ask.

The top questions first-time Virgin Voyages sailors ask us, and the answers we'd give a friend. Anything missing, ask us directly.

Is Virgin Voyages really adults-only?

Yes. All four Lady-class ships are 18+ only. Everyone in your cabin must be 18 or over on the day of sailing. There are no kids' menus, no kids' clubs, no kids' anything, and that's the point. The atmosphere onboard is unmistakably adult: late-night dining, drag brunch, Scarlet Night, no announcements over the PA at 7am.

What's actually included in the fare?

The big ones: all 20+ restaurants (no buffet, no main dining room, no specialty upcharges), basic Wi-Fi, group fitness classes, still water, drip coffee and tea, soft drinks and juices, all entertainment, and access to all public spaces including the saunas and mud lounge.

What's not included: alcohol, premium coffee, the spa, Shore Things (excursions), and as of October 7, 2025, gratuities are no longer bundled, they're $20 per Sailor per day if you prepay, $22 onboard.

Cabin types, what's the difference between Insider, Sea View, Sea Terrace, Cheeky Corner, and RockStar?

Insider, interior cabin, no window. The cheapest way on the ship, still a real bed and a proper bathroom.

Sea View, porthole or fixed window, no balcony. Surprisingly bright.

Sea Terrace, the standard balcony cabin. Hammock on the balcony. Most popular pick.

Cheeky Corner, aft-facing wraparound balcony. The cult favorite. Books out first.

RockStar / Mega RockStar, suites. Bigger, better-located, and includes a long list of perks including priority embarkation, daily restaurant reservations, free spa visit, and an in-suite refilled bar tab. There are six RockStar tiers from "Sweet Aft" to "Massive Suite."

How does dining work with 20+ restaurants and no buffet?

You book restaurant reservations through the VV app before your sailing, they open 45 days out for Sailors and earlier for RockStars. The Test Kitchen, Razzle Dazzle (or Ariya on Valiant from May 2026, Rojo on Brilliant, Lucky Lotus on Scarlet), Pink Agave, Extra Virgin, Gunbae, and The Wake all book up. The Galley is the casual all-day food hall and never needs a reservation. Plan two dinners ahead, leave the rest to walk-ins or in-app last-minute openings.

What should I wear?

There are no formal nights. Daywear is whatever's comfortable on a ship, swimsuit and coverup by the pool, anything casual in the afternoons. Most restaurants are smart-casual; The Wake (steakhouse) leans a little dressier. Scarlet Night is the one theme night, wear red. Drag brunch encourages costume but doesn't require it.

I'm sailing solo, does that work on VV?

It works well. VV doesn't punish solos as hard as most cruise lines, solo supplements are lower, and the ship is built for socializing (long communal tables at The Galley, group fitness classes, mid-day deck parties). You'll find the solo community on the Sailor app's Sailor Chat channels and at the Sailor Mixer on day one.

What's the deal with gratuities now?

As of October 7, 2025, VV unbundled gratuities. You'll either prepay $20 per Sailor per day or be charged $22 per Sailor per day onboard. Bar tabs and spa services have an automatic 18% gratuity added.

How does the Wi-Fi work?

Basic Wi-Fi (browsing, messaging, email) is included for every Sailor. If you want to stream video or take Zoom calls, you'll upgrade to the premium tier onboard, usually $5–10/day. Most sailings get fine speeds in port and slower speeds mid-Atlantic, exactly as you'd expect.

Repositioning cruises, what are those, and should I do one?

When a ship moves between regions (Caribbean to Med in spring, Med to Caribbean in fall, Miami to LA via the Panama Canal), it does the move as a regular voyage at a discount. More sea days, fewer ports, often half the price per night. Good for people who want the ship more than the destinations. Brilliant Lady has a 16-night Panama Canal repositioning between LA and Miami in October–November 2026.

What if I have to cancel?

VV's standard cancellation schedule applies (full refund 120+ days out, declining percentage closer in). Voyage Protection is available for an additional fee at booking and we recommend it for any voyage more than 90 days out.
